These terms are an agreement between you and Red Finch Advisory LLC, the company that makes LampLit ("we"). On Google Play, LampLit is published by Red Finch Enterprises LLC on behalf of Red Finch Advisory LLC. They cover the LampLit app for iPhone and Android and the site mylamplit.com. When you create an account, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, don’t use LampLit. These terms live at https://mylamplit.com/terms.
Who can use LampLit
- You must be 18 or older. LampLit is not for anyone under 18.
- You must have a US mobile number. LampLit launches in the United States only.
- Every account needs a mobile number, confirmed with a texted code.
- Each person may have only one account. A phone number, Apple account, Google account or email can belong to only one account.
- You can’t use LampLit if we banned your number or suspended your account.
- You can’t use LampLit if you are a registered sex offender. We may check public sex offender registries, but we have no duty to.
- You can’t use LampLit if you live in a country under US embargo, or if you are on a US list of people barred from US services.
If someone helps you set up LampLit, you still answer the age question and accept these terms yourself.
If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we delete it.
Using the app
We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to use LampLit on phones you own or control, under these terms. LampLit is free. We keep all rights to the app, its name, its look and its code.
Your account and sign-in
You sign in with a texted code, Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google, or an email and password. Use your own phone number and true details. Keep your phone and your sign-ins safe. You are responsible for what happens on your account.
Keep your phone number current. Carriers give old numbers to new people. If you change or give up your number, change it in Settings first, or delete your account.
When your account signs in on a new phone, your other phones get a notice. If you didn’t do it, sign that phone out in Settings and email support@mylamplit.com.
Texts from LampLit
LampLit’s text provider texts you a six-digit sign-in code, only when you ask for one. We send no marketing texts. How many you get depends on how often you sign in. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help or STOP to stop all texts from us, and START to get codes again. While you’re opted out, sign in another way. Carriers aren’t liable for late or undelivered texts. For help, email support@mylamplit.com.
What LampLit is, and what it isn’t
LampLit lets you tell friends you’re up for company. You turn on your light. Friends who see it can knock. You answer "Come on over" or "Not right now".
- LampLit is not for emergencies. Call 911 if you need help. Notifications can be late or fail.
- A light is an invitation, not a promise. You can say "Not right now" to any knock. So can your friends. Nobody owes anyone a visit.
- Meeting in person is your choice and your responsibility. You decide who comes over and where you go. Use the same care you would anywhere else.
- LampLit does not check who people are. We confirm a phone number, not a person’s name, age or background. Add only people you know.
- LampLit never posts anything for you.
Your address and number
When you say "Come on over", the friend who knocked gets your saved address for that visit. Friends you accept get your phone number so they can text and call you.
- Once a friend sees your address or number, LampLit can’t take it back. They may remember it or have saved it.
- LampLit doesn’t check that an address is real, or that it is yours.
- If you get a friend’s address or number through LampLit, use it only to visit or reach that friend. Don’t share it, sell it, or use it to market anything.
- LampLit never sells your address, your number or where you live.
Meeting people: your risk
Visiting a friend, or having one over, carries the normal risks of being with other people and being in their home or yours. These include injury, illness, damage to things you own, and the conduct of the people you meet. You take on those risks yourself when you choose to meet. Our Safety tips help.
We don’t take part in your visits. We don’t screen users, run background checks or watch what people do. We are not responsible for what any user does, on LampLit or in person.
To the extent the law allows, you release Red Finch Advisory LLC, its owners and its staff from claims, losses and damages that come from what other users do, on LampLit or in person. If you live in California, you waive California Civil Code section 1542, which says: "A general release does not extend to claims that the creditor or releasing party does not know or suspect to exist in his or her favor at the time of executing the release and that, if known by him or her, would have materially affected his or her settlement with the debtor or released party." This release doesn’t cover our own gross negligence, recklessness or willful misconduct.
Rules for what you write
Our Community Guidelines say the same rules in friendlier words.
You write names, a handle, notes and places. Friends see them. Your invite link shows your name and house to anyone you send it to. Don’t use LampLit to post or send anything that:
- harasses, bullies or threatens anyone;
- attacks people for their race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability or other protected trait;
- promotes or plans illegal acts, such as drug sales or trafficking;
- sexualizes minors in any way;
- pretends to be another person, a brand, an organization or LampLit;
- is spam, a scam, or comes from a fake account;
- shares someone else’s private information without their consent;
- copies someone else’s work, name or brand without the right to.
Also, don’t:
- use bots or scripts to search for people or make accounts;
- get around limits, blocks or bans;
- try to break into LampLit or copy its code;
- make a new account after we ban you.
Word checks. Names, handles, notes and places go through a blocked-words check. An entry that fails is not saved. Passing the check doesn’t mean an entry follows these rules.
Reserved and held handles. Handles that name LampLit, staff roles or app pages are reserved. Any handle that contains "lamplit" is blocked. Names of well-known people, brands and organizations are held. We release a held name only on proof that you are that person or group. A handle you let go is never given to anyone else.
Reports and enforcement
You can report a person, a note or a place. Report sits beside Block on a person’s sheet. We never tell the person that anyone reported them, or who. We aim to read each report within 3 days.
We may do any of these if you break these terms, if we need to protect someone, if the law requires it, or to stop fraud or abuse:
- Hide a note or place. It disappears for everyone at once. Your light stays on. You see that it broke LampLit’s rules.
- Suspend your account. You are signed out on every phone. Your light turns off, your timers pause, and your house leaves every street. Friends aren’t told. If we lift the suspension, your friends and streets come back.
- Ban your phone number. A banned number can never sign up, sign in, or be added to any account. We keep it only as a keyed hash so the ban lasts.
We may act without warning when someone is at risk. If you think we got it wrong, email support@mylamplit.com and say what happened. A person reads it and tells you what we decided.
Your content
You own what you write on LampLit. You give Red Finch Advisory LLC a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, copy and show it. We use that license only to show your content to the friends you choose (and your name and house to people you send your invite link) and to run LampLit. The license ends when your content is deleted, except for copies we keep for the times in our Privacy Policy, such as reports and backups.
We never use what you write for ads, we never sell it, and we never use it to train AI models.
Ideas and bug reports
If you send us an idea, a bug report or other feedback, in the app or by email, we may use it to improve LampLit without paying you or owing you anything. Don’t send us anything you want to keep secret.
Copyright
If you think something on LampLit copies your work, email support@mylamplit.com with: your name and contact details, the work you think was copied, where it is on LampLit, a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn’t allowed, a statement that your notice is accurate, and your signature. We remove what infringes, and we close the accounts of people who infringe again and again.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, who sees it, and how long we keep it. Read it at https://mylamplit.com/privacy.
Deleting your account
You can stop using LampLit at any time. Delete your account in Settings, or at https://mylamplit.com/delete. Your house and light disappear for friends at once, and they aren’t told. For 30 days you can sign in and bring it back. After 30 days we erase it for good. A few things last longer, as the Privacy Policy says.
Changes to LampLit and these terms
We may change, add or remove features. We may stop offering LampLit. We may change these terms. We post every change at https://mylamplit.com/terms and update the date above.
When a change matters to you, the app asks you to accept the new terms before you go on. Until you accept, you can still read the terms, contact us, or delete your account. Small fixes, such as typos or clearer wording, take effect when we post them.
No warranty
LampLit is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied. This includes warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don’t promise that LampLit will always work, be free of errors, or deliver every notification. We are not responsible for what other people do, on LampLit or in person.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Red Finch Advisory LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages. This includes lost data, lost profits, and harm from meeting other people. Our total liability for all claims about LampLit is limited to the greater of $100 or what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. This section doesn’t limit our liability for our own gross negligence, recklessness, willful misconduct or fraud. Some states don’t allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
Your responsibility to us
If someone makes a claim against us because of what you wrote on LampLit, how you used it, or how you broke these terms or the law, you will cover our reasonable costs of that claim, including lawyers’ fees. We will tell you about the claim and let you help with it.
Disputes
Talk to us first. Before you file a claim, email support@mylamplit.com with your name, your number, what happened and what you want. We will try to settle it with you for 60 days. We will do the same before we file a claim against you.
Small claims. Either of us can take a claim to small claims court if it qualifies.
Law and court. Pennsylvania law governs these terms, except where federal law applies. Any claim that goes to court goes to the state or federal courts in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and you and we agree to those courts.
App stores
If you got LampLit from the App Store or Google Play, that store’s terms also apply. If they conflict with these terms, the store’s terms win for that store.
If you use LampLit on an Apple device:
- These terms are between you and Red Finch Advisory LLC, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for LampLit and its content.
- Your license to use LampLit is limited to Apple-branded products you own or control, as the App Store’s Usage Rules allow, except that people in your Family Sharing group can use it too.
- Apple has no duty to give support or upkeep for LampLit.
- If LampLit fails any warranty that the law gives you, you can tell Apple and Apple will refund the price you paid for it, which is $0. To the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty duty for LampLit.
- We, not Apple, handle any claim about LampLit, such as product liability, a claim that LampLit breaks a law, or a consumer protection claim.
- If someone claims LampLit or your use of it infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, handle that claim.
- You confirm you don’t live in a country under US embargo or one the US names as supporting terrorism, and you aren’t on a US list of barred parties.
- You must follow any third-party terms that apply, such as your wireless carrier’s.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. When you accept these terms, Apple can enforce them against you.
General terms
- These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about LampLit.
- If a court finds part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don’t enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later.
- You can’t transfer these terms to anyone else. We can transfer them to a company that takes over LampLit.
- We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by things outside our control, such as outages, disasters or carrier problems.
- The parts of these terms that by their nature should last after your account ends, do last. These include Your content, Ideas and bug reports, No warranty, Limitation of liability, Your responsibility to us, and Disputes.
